Traffic Controls & Detours
See below for details of road closures and detours that will be in place for the McLaren Vale Marathon on Sunday 1 June 2025.
A majority of traffic controls will be in place between 7:45 am and 2:00 pm, with Main Road being closed between the McLaren Vale Piazza and ANZ bank from 5:30 am.
Timings are estimated and include time for traffic controls to be packed down. Traffic controls will be packed up and roads re-opened as soon as possible after the last runner has passed through each section.
The McLaren Vale Marathon will showcase our beautiful region, bringing 3000+ runners into the area along with their families and spectators, providing a boost to spending in our local accommodation, tourism and hospitality sector in this off-peak period.

Main Road Kalamata Court to ANZ Bank |
Main Road will be fully closed between the McLaren Vale Piazza and ANZ Bank from 5:30 am until 2:30 pm. McLaren Vale Central Shopping Centre (Foodland & Coles) car park will be accessible along Main Road from the west after 9:00 am. All vehicles must leave this car park via the exit next to ANZ Bank heading east, and looping back into McLaren Vale via Field St & Chalk Hill Road or continuing on towards McLaren Flat or Willunga. |

Main Road McMurtrie Road to ANZ Bank |
Main road will be closed to northbound traffic from McMurtrie Rd to ANZ Bank from 7:45 am until approximately 2:00 pm, whilst runners are present on this carriageway. This section will be open to southbound vehicles under reduced speed restrictions. Please park on the eastern side of Main Road if you require vehicle access out of your property during the event. |

Tatachilla Road / Main Road |
This junction will be closed from 7:45 am until approximately 2:00 pm and vehicles will be unable to turn on to Main Road from Tatachilla Road. |

Friendship Drive / Main Road |
This junction will be closed from 7:45 am until approximately 2:00 pm and vehicles will be unable to turn on to Main Road from Friendship Drive. Access in and out of Friendship Drive will be via Aldersey Street during the event. |

Grapevine Lane & Bushing Court |
Traffic controllers will assist with access between Grapevine Lane and Main Road (in and out) between 7:45 am and 1:30 pm. Runners will have priority when present on Main Road. Please be patient if waiting for a suitable gap to cross the closed western carriageway. |

Main Road Malpas Road to McMurtirie Rd |
Main Road will be fully closed between Malpas Road and McMurtrie Road from 7:45 am until approximately 2:00 pm. |

Malpas Road will be fully closed from 7:45 am until approximately 1:00 pm. |

Binney Road |
Binney Road will be closed to eastbound traffic from Main Road to Strout Road from 7:45 am until approximately 1:15 pm. Binney Road will remain open to westbound vehicles under reduced speed restrictions. Please show extreme caution if accessing properties on the northern side of Binney Road – runners have right of way on the closed carriageway. |

Strout Road |
Strout Road will closed to northbound traffic from Binney Road to McMurtrie Road from 7:45 am until approximately 1:30 pm. Strout Road will remain open to southbound vehicles under reduced speed restrictions. Please show extreme caution if accessing properties on the western side of Strout Road – runners have right of way on the closed carriageway. |

McMurtrie Road |
McMurtrie Road will closed to westbound traffic from Strout Road to Main Road from 7:45 am until approximately 1:45 pm. McMurtrie Road will remain open to eastbound vehicles under reduced speed restrictions. Please show extreme caution if accessing properties on the southern side of McMurtrie Road – runners have right of way on the closed carriageway. |
